The inclusion of cymactive™ on the NHS Supply Chain Framework, via the NHS Innovation Pathway, simplifies procurement for NHS Trusts and hospitals, enabling streamlined access to the device through a compliant, pre-approved purchasing route. This development ensures that clinicians can more easily integrate cymactive™ technology into patient care pathways, supporting improved outcomes for individuals experiencing chronic urinary retention.
Ending the "Foley Era"
For decades, the standard of care for chronic urinary retention has relied on the 'Foley' catheter, a design nearly 100 years old that often requires patients to carry external drainage bags. These legacy devices have a known association with Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTIs), which cost the NHS hundreds of millions of pounds annually in unplanned hospital admissions and antibiotic treatments. This agreement paves the way for NHS Trusts to adopt a new generation of medical devices designed to replace century-old catheter design and improve quality-of-life outcomes.
Through a patented internal valve, cymactive™ gives patients control of their bladder voiding using an external magnetic Actuator. By mimicking natural urination and removing the need for external tubes and drainage bags, cymactive™ restores patient dignity while supporting urinary health and preserving bladder function. It is approved for up to 30 days of continuous use and supported by published medical data.
